Dear Donna,
It seems as though the holidays should be the most enjoyable time of year, yet I feel stressed, exhausted, bloated and constantly overeat. Any tips?
Exhausted Already!

Dear C.C.,
Although the holidays are thought to be an enjoyable and relaxing time with friends and family they are often overwhelming and stressful periods. Our regular hectic schedules are made even more hectic by “too much to do and too little time to do it in.” Follow these tips to lessen the stress so you can enjoy the holiday season:
1. DON’T USE FOOD AS A STRESS RELIEVER
If you are feeling overwhelmed, don’t use food as “comfort” or to compensate for stress. Pay attention to what you eat and choose alternatives such as a brisk walk or a warm bath. Focus on the comforts of family and friends rather than food.
2. EAT HEALTHY
The holidays are not a green light to overload on calorie-laddened foods. Continue eating healthy and eat your favorite treats in moderation. Remember just a few bites after a relatively healthy meal is all you need to satisfy your taste buds!
3. STAY ACTIVE
Don’t put your regular exercise on the back burner. Research indicates that consistent workouts help relieve stress. If you can’t maintain your regular workout schedule, commit to a bare minimum of three 30-minute sessions per week.
3. DON’T FORGET TO RELAX!
Take advantage of some time off from work. Get a great work out in or try a yoga class, go for a massage, take a warm bath with epsom salt, folowed by a hot shower and you will be ready to knock off some of the “to do’s” on your list! This may also help you to get a good night sleep!
Healthy Holidays!
